LINDEN RESIDENCE
Built in the 20's, this sunny European cottage style stone house had small rooms. The original kitchen had very little counter space and was too small for our clients and their young family. Because the garage, like most suburban homes, was only being used for storage not parking cars, we decided to swallow the garage into the footprint of the house and build a small addition over the piece of driveway between the former kitchen door and garage door. While filling in this cut-out of driveway did not add a lot of additional interior square footage, it did dramatically change the function of the property. To replace the garage storage our clients purchased a smaller tasteful prefab wooden shed that was assembled in the corner of the backyard. The new kitchen, mudroom, office/guest room, now perform perfectly for this young family. The dutch door was a favorite detail.
